Hiring your replacement

Is it morbid that my first action as a new leader is to find my replacement? I don't start with the intent to leave and my search is 100% internal. But, I also believe that preparing emerging leaders - "who's next" - is central to my responsibilities as a teammate.


Training takes real engagement, serious time and commitment from multiple stakeholders but, done right, can ensure a smooth transition when change occurs.
